As part of its advocacy efforts, the Consumer Advocacy for Food Safety and Nutrition Initiative, CAFSANI, has recently developed a consumer pocket guide for food safety and nutrition. The pocket guide, currently in English language, is to be translated into the major Nigerian languages as part of efforts to inform, educate, and promote the consumption of only safe foods and water in the country.
The Consumer Pocket Guide on Food Safety and Nutrition, officially launched as part of the activities of the World Food Safety Day 2023 in Abuja, is one of the efforts by CAFSANI NGO to inform and educate consumers on best practices that assure food safety as well as making the right nutrition choices. It creates the much-needed awareness for making demand for safe foods which will complement the efforts of other stakeholders. Consumers must know their rights and play their part to ensure only safe and nutritious foods are available in the food system especially at this period of the cholera outbreak.
This guide has been endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), and Association for the Promotion of Food Safety and Nutrition (APFSAN).
We recommend that every consumer gets a copy of this guide. Food Safety and Nutrition Program and Project implementers will find this guide handful and helpful in their outreaches.
